Hi
Sears/Inglis model LT74182 refrigerator, 17 cubic feet, top freezer, 1983

I noticed that the defrost timer is making some noise. It is sort of a tap tap tap, sound of gears and or motor running. It is not excessively loud.
The defrost timer works as I get a bit of water in the evap tray underneath, and I did mark the knob on the timer with a dot if white out and it does turn.
This is the 3rd timer, as the first was replaced under wsrranty, 2nd maybe 20 years ago.
Defrost timer has numbers on it K99A61, old paper work says 8 hour 26 minutes cycle

1.) Should I replace it or let it go as it works? It is not too noisey and the fridge is in the basement. (If it is not broke, don't fix it? LOL )

2.) I cannot find a K99A61 timer ... if need be.

Thanks

That is not a model number. It might be a serial number but that doesn't help at all.

It very well may fail one day. It might however last years yet.

It is up to you whether you replace it now or later. If you keep expensive food in the fridge, it might spoil when it does eventually fail resulting in a large loss.

2.) I cannot find a K99A61 timer

Did you try Google? A lot of replacements pop up. K99A61 is a 'universal' part anyway and it will be replaced by another universal timer of a different number.

Hi Dan
LT74182 is the model, I took it from the door sill plate. Maybe because it is a Sears / Inglis combo it is not available. Inglis is Canadian, but seems to resemble whirlpool?
As for k99a61 defrost timer , I found universal one, just worried about some stuff I read about switching 2 leads around to get it to work correct in some applicat ions. Also tech sheet for k99a61 (I saved it) says 8 hour, 26 minute defrost cycle. Universal is 6 hour, 21 minutes.
Is that an issue that may a use a problem?

Thanks

It might be a serial number. It definitely is not a model number, Canadian or otherwise.

If LT74182 is the serial, it was likely made by Camco/GE

Also tech sheet for k99a61 (I saved it) says 8 hour, 26 minute defrost cycle. Universal is 6 hour, 21 minutes.

No. You’ll never notice the difference.

I kind of thought that too, bit not being a professional in the know...thought I better ask the Pro's. Many thanks.
