Hello, we purchased a home (built in 1990) about a year ago that has a Jenn-Air S161. We'd like to replace the grill with another A105-8 cartridge so we have four burners.
I purchased another cartridge on eBay, swapped it with the grill element, but the burners do not heat up. I did two things as a sanity check:
1. Moved our old cartridge to the side that the grill was on, all works as expected.
2. Tested continuity on the newly acquired cartridge and all seems to check out.
I opened both the newly acquired cartridge and our old one that still works. The main difference that I see is that the wiring is different between the cartridges.
Newly acquired cartridge:
1. A105-8
2. Three prongs, with the third being on the outer-most position of the terminal block
Existing cartridge:
1. A105-8
2. Three prongs, but the third is on the inner-most position on the terminal block
This prompted me to open both cartridges and compare. I see that both have similar burners, rated for the same wattages and voltages, but have slightly different (part?) numbers on them.
Newly acquired cartridge:
1. Small burner: 873 and 10849
2. Large burner: 873 and 1371
Existing cartridge:
1. Small burner: 891 and 18049
2. Large burner: 892 and 1450

Would it be safe to re-wire the internal wiring of the newly acquired cartridge to match that of the existing one that we know works?
Please forgive me, I'm short on appropriate vocabulary!
