Outer door glass shattered, it is the 3rd layer of glass out from the cooking chamber. I am wondering if it could safely be replaced with 1/8" Lexan or Plexiglass, or if I could have a new piece of tempered glass made ( has holes for handle ) and back is coated with a black film that I am guessing served the purpose of holding the shards of glass from falling all over the place when broken. This door panel is no longer available.
This unit is both microwave and convection oven, this function is rarely if ever used.

Anyone done this fix or have a better solution to keep this $2000 oven alive?

I don't know what those products' temperature speciations are.

I think it is more likely just for appearance and that was just a lucky coincidence. Some oven door glasses are covered with a film of metal to help reflect heat back into the oven. It usually has a silver/rainbow effect in the light.

We have had inner door glasses cut and tempered. Never with holes though. Check with a glass supplier what they think.
