We have had our 24" front-loading Maytag for about 10 years. I think the model came out around 2004 (manual has this date copy-writed). It has worked well, with only one problem, about a year ago (a board went out, repaired by a service tech).
Recently it started to make this terrible rattling/clanging/not-quite-grinding sound on the fast spin at the very end of the cycle, not during the other spins. I figured it for a bearing. I consulted your excellent video and have the machine completely disassembled (outer drum split in half, but motor and pulley still mounted to back half of outer drum). Here is my question: I really expected to be able to sense some friction/noise when hand spinning the pulley, but it seems really smooth. Should I proceed to remove and replace this bearing? Is there something I'm missing?
I've really appreciated what I've read on this site. Keep up the good work, and thank you for any insights anyone might have. -- rp.
