22 year old side by side, and the freezer isnt getting colder than hi 20's. I cleaned the coils, and everything seems to be working. I turned it off for a day to make sure it wasn't frozen up, and all i noticed was a lot of water dripping out of the freezer door? When I shoot it with a temp gun, the back wall is warm.

What should I be checking next.

Thanks

Hi,

Pull the refrigerator out from the wall, then remove the lower back access panel and see if your condenser fan motor is running, it sits next to your compressor.

Also do you hear your fan in the freezer running?

Also remove the lower back access panel inside the freezer and look at your evaporator coil, tell me what frost pattern you see from the photos below.

Amana sade x side - freezer not cooling

Both fans (condenser & freezer) are working.

Only the top half of the freezer coil is frosting, which I think means a sealed system problem, and I assume isn't worth fixing on 22 year old unit, but I thought I would confirm all that before i take it out back and shoot it:)

Sorry if the picture is horizontal...operator error.

Thanks

Yes, You have a sealed system problem. The sealed system consists of the compressor, condenser, evaporator, heat exchanger, filter/drier and refrigerant. Common problems with a sealed system are bad compressors, refrigerant leaks, and system restrictions. Sealed system repair costs will often exceed the machines value.

Labor Day Appliance Sales are still going on, I recommend Whirlpool: Whirlpool Refrigerators Labor Day Sale
