20 year old GE side by side. Water dispenser has started randomly sticking, causing water to keep running. I took the rubber cover off and can replicate the issue. The actuator arm is a bit weak to spring back and sounds 'creaky'.

Hi,

Its likely the dispenser switch is sticking.

Here's the parts diagram for your model:

#72 is the dispenser switch, unfortunately Its been discontinued. But you can spray some WD40 lubrication on the button mechanism and see if that makes it NOT stick anymore.

#63 is your ice door spring, that is still available. Yours may be weak and preventing the ice door from springing back properly.

Thanks, Jake. Took it apart and all seemed fine. Switch was not sticking at all and actuator arm was smooth. Removed arm and cleaned pivot holes, then cleaned some scum off water spout for good measure. Put back together and the sticking is gone.

This only happened when the actuator arm was pushed all or most of the way in (like the spout of a measuring cup), so maybe that had something to do with it.

Ok Mackie, sounds good.

Hopefully the dispenser switch won't stick anymore. But it wouldn't hurt to spray a little WD40 lubricate on it for good measure.:)
