My Kitchenaid kdtm404kps is now leaving small particles on all my dishes. I have read on this forum that this means the main cleaning pump, which houses the microfilter, needs to be replaced. This is a $300 part on a $800 dishwasher and, as a non-serviceable part is (to my mind) a design flaw. A $50 pump would be less objectionable, but is galling to have to pay so much for poor design.

My question before I tear into this thing is whether it is possible to disassemble the pump housing and clean the filter. The pump seems to work - it just throws particles all over my dishes.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

First, this ended up in washers not dishwashers.

You’re not supposed to need to clean it but yeah just seeing that part in pictures brought me fits and convulsions. It’s a lot of work to get that part. Maybe it’s easier if you yank the whole sump assembly but it was the torn mesh from a tiny shard of glass was the bane of my existence. You might find that the mesh is in fact torn to shreds as happened with me.

Thx, I didn't notice. I don't usually navigate messages by particular forum topic but others looking for answers likely do. It has been relocated to the proper forum.

I hope the OP will let us know how they make out.

Yes, I plan on puling the pump this week and taking a stab at cleaning the filter without replacing it. I will take photos as I go and report back. Thanks for everyone's input on this!
