have a Broan trash compactor Model # 1050-E. When I go to run it the motor runs but nothing happens. I sounds as if a gear is stripped. I took off the back and the drive chain was off the sprocket. I puti it back on and then the sound like a stripped gear was noticable.

Any thought on what this might be?

This compactor is almost 20 years old.
