• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

Purchased a new home with this Viking appliance in it. When my husband and I attempt to use the microwave, the lights come on and the clock is counting down but it is making no noise and not heating. Appliance is out of warranty and in fact Viking has discontinued the model. I am trying to decide if this is something worth investing in fixing or should I just give up and buy a new one?

This is a tough one for several reasons. Viking makes good appliances and often they're worth repairing. As long as the problem doesn't turn out to be the control board most other parts are still available. The problem with your machine could be something as simple as a door switch or it could be the control board. The big problem with that machine is Viking. They have changed their policy and trying to find any information or wiring diagrams is almost impossible. They have also pulled their parts from the parts houses so that they can only be purchased through them. Most of the time a good service tech can determine the problem without a wiring diagram and will know which manufactures parts will replace Viking parts. I have no way of looking up that model so the only thing I would suggest is a good service tech.
