It seems like out of now where our washer started smeeling like burning soap or some kind of checmical. It was so bad it made my nose burn for a while. It just started one day and then gradually got worse until it was a nose burner then has settled down quite a bit now. It still smells but not nearly as bad. Any ideas of what the problem could be? It's a GE.

Thanks,

Brad

Hi Brad,

It could be a number of things. Maybe some kind of chemical reaction of the detergent or fabric softner, if you use any. Or maybe the type of fabric mixing with the deterent or with the bleach, if you used it.

Is the washer very old?

Try running a cycle with vinager , and no clothes.

That should help flush it.

If all else fails try Vanilla extract in a cycle, with no clothes.

Its a great cure for smells.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

It's about 6 years old. We tried running a few cycles with no clothes and it still stunk. Tried runnign bleach with no clothes but didn't try vinegar or Vanilla. I give those a shot. We used the same detergent before it started stinking. We switched to a different kind and it didn't help. It did go away pretty much on it's own after a couple of weeks but it's still there a little. I'll give those 2 ideas a try. Thanks!
