Washer won't spin or drain sometimes

I have a Norge washer - model LWL203AC - and it will not spin or drain. It has a belt driven pump - which seems to work fine, when I close the lid - the lid switch starts the timer, but no spin. The odd thing is that if I fiddle around with the dial - usually takes around 5 minutes - it works and spins? It seems like the motor isn't receiving the power sometimes to engage? This motor goes into reverse to spin - can it be burnt out it only one direction? How do I use a OHM meter to test that?

Thanks,

Brent

I've been playing with the washer all day - Now I think it's the timer for sure - when it goes to the spin cycle it does nothing - but if I push on the dial - it engages sometimes and spins. Could it be a bad contact or solenoid maybe - how does someone test that?

Its the timer thats causing it. Its a bad contact in the timer itself, you could open the timer and check for a arched/burned spot on it.

Here is the timer for your model:
