FIXED WDF750SAYW3 Whirlpool dishwasher stops midcycle

My dishwasher stops washing right after the soap dispenser opens. I am trying to figure out what part needs to be fixed. I have turned the power off to it several times (circuit breaker) and it doesn't help. Dishwasher starts fine, I can hear it fill and spray the dishes. Then it gets quite, the soap dispense pops open then silence. Front of machine looks like it is running (nothing is blinking). Eventually it the light goes from washing to drying to clean. I open it up, dishes are dirty and soap packet is either on the bottom or in the silverware holder. Thanks
This is pretty much exactly what is happening to our dishwasher. Except I use soap dishwashing detergent so there is a mess where it just spilled out when the cycle stopped. I can hear the dispenser open with a thud which is at the point when the washing stops. Lights are still on. I hear from time to time that something is going on w the motor, but no water sprays or washing is happening. But then it will have the clean light turn on after a long while. I'm wasting so much water because I kept thinking if I restarted, it would restart or continue with the cycle. This has been happening the past month. It's very random because it will work again for a few washes. And then stop working again.

Is this the main control board? Which specific part is that? I saw a part for a main control board for like $228. Is it worth to make this fix because it's probably at least 7 years old. Or should I just invest in a new one? Are there videos I can work from and do it myself? I was able to replace the motor pump myself.

Added model number

Do you have the exact same model number WDF750SAYW3 ? The model number tag is located inside the door on the tub frame.

If so, then the problem is usually the wash motor. Look at post #7 here: FIXED 665.13472N411 What to check on why it only washes about 5% of the cycle.

I'd first check to see if your getting 120 volts to the wash motor when it should be in the wash cycle. His Kenmore 665 is made by Whirlpool, and uses the exact same wash motor yours does.

Take the wire connector off the wash motor and use your multimeter to see if yours is getting 120 volts when it should be washing, if so and it's not running order the wash motor below.

Here's the wash motor for model WDF750SAYW3:

Here's the video to replace it: Dishwasher Circulation Pump Replacement Video

Let us know what you find.

Yes. It's the exact same model #WDF750SAYM3.

The cycle stops like 5 minutes right after the soap dispenser opens with a thud. Then it sits idle for a while. It'll make small sounds like it will continue, but it never does. Eventually the light goes to clean. But, it never finished the cycle.

There's clean water at the bottom because it started the wash. And the soap detergent has spilled out onto the bottom.

I did a hard reset a couple of times and it'll work a couple cycles and then will have the same problem again.

I've replaced the drain pump last year because it wasn't draining. That was doable for a non professional.

I called a service guy and he suggested the main control board. But, that's a $230+ part so I want to make sure it's that before I try that. And it's also a 7+ years old. I might as well get a new one if I have to go that route of the main control board. Another person suggested it's the turbidity sensor. So I'm really confused.

I just read your other suggested #7 thread and will try the Motor pump. It looks like an easy fix that I should be able to do.

Yes. It's the exact same model #WDF750SAYM3.
Ok, good!

Yes, 9 times out of 10 the wash motor is the problem.

Yes, Do what I mentioned in post #2 and that will verify if your getting 120 volts to the wash motor when it should be running after the tub fills with water, if your meter reads 120 volts, then the wash motor is the culprit.

Hi Jake,

I replaced the Motor pump. I followed your recommended video very carefully and it's officially working again!

Thank you so much for all of your help. I couldn't have done it without you.

Cassie
