Hello,

Thank you for reading.

We picked up a Whirlpool Ventless Dryer. The store was going out of business, no warranty implied.

WED9290FW0

The first day we got it, we noticed things got hot and had a little smell.

The manual said this was normal.

The little smell grew more.

It got very HOT, had more of a smell, and we turned it off.

Waited for it to cool down.

Started it again.

It appears that the compressor Fan spins for about a minute, and then shuts down.

The dryer continues to run normally, no smell, but the compressor fan does not stay running.

I stopped the dryer again before it gets too hot.

Should the compressor fan stay running during the entire cycle?

Is this enough info to help diagnose, or is there something else I should be checking?

I appreciate your input.

Thank you.

That I don't know, I've not worked on or had any training on ventless dryers as of yet.

Whirlpool goes by the serial number for warranty work, so you should still be under warranty.

You can contact Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538 and have a tech come out if you think something is wrong.

Thanks for your replies.

Called a local repair shop, as whirlpool said it was out of warranty. The repair shop charged 120 to take a look.

They said it was functioning fine.

He showed me inside the lower filter, and pointed out oil.

After the kids went to bed, took it apart to look around.

Found a puddle of oil underneath the compressor. Soaked that up.

Took the fan out, and cleaned the oil around the fan...

Looks like this dryer was 3 years old.

I know the manual said some oil would be left behind from the manufacturing process....

Is this normal?

(thanks for looking)

That looks much more worse than normal to me.
