Hello everyone, I need help determining which part I should replace.

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washer (WFW70HEBW0) that makes a terrible noise during the spin cycle. It still works fine, but it sounds like the washer is going to go through the wall! I attached a link to an audio clip so you can hear for yourself -- at the end of the clip, it sounds normal again (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QixWa7EaY__k9UccahjeH_dMmXn2STYz?usp=sharing).

I removed the back cover and checked the four shocks -- all are in good shape. I also checked the spider arm, which seems to be solid and not cracked or broken.

So my question is which part do I need to replace?

Are there bearings on the rotor/stator combo that need to be replaced? Probably not, since it sounds okay during all the wash cycles.

From reading this forum, I know there are bearings in the tub, but can the bearings be replaced separately or do I need to replace the whole tub assembly?

Also, @Jake , I know you mentioned that the tub and/or bearings may have a 10 year warranty. How can I determine if mine is covered?

Thanks in advance for your help!

BTW, I also had a dryer problem that I was about to post, but found the Technician's Guide on this forum and ran through all the tests -- turns out to be a bad thermal fuse! This is now my Go-To forum for all things appliance related, and I love the videos on RepairClinic!

Hi TuxBoy,

When I click your link to the audio clip, it says folder empty.

Are you absolutely sure your rotor is NOT CRACKED or rotor bolt LOOSE?

Here's the rotor for your model:
Rotor W10365755

If the rotor and rotor bolt are fine, then yes you'd need new bearings, but the new bearings only come with the outer and inner tub assembly, the price for the outer and inner tub assembly is over $1000:

It would be more wise to save the repair money for the outer and inner tub assembly for a new washer.

Also, @Jake , I know you mentioned that the tub and/or bearings may have a 10 year warranty. How can I determine if mine is covered?
Look in your owners manual warranty.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the help. My apologies for the link -- the file is there now  .

I'll check the rotor and bolt as suggested, and provide an update later this week.

Also, I confirmed that the warranty is only 1 year for all parts of the washer. So yeah, it definitely makes more sense to get a new washer, if in fact it's the bearings.

Have a listen and let me know what your trained ear thinks.

Yes, I heard it, that sounds like bad bearings to me, if your rotor and rotor bolt both are fine.
