I thought the above article was interesting about some of the new-fangled evaporator fan motors.

Do they really need to be so complicated? Wasn't a simple shaded pole motor good enough... and more reliable?

Yeah, when the one in my Maytag all freezer went south and I saw the $$$ on the replacement I put in a universal I had. Only issue was rotation of blade.
