First time posting.

The metal top of the dryer (ventless heat pump model) stays hot to the touch like an element is stuck on.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael, I haven't worked on these ventless dryers, but they don't use a heating element, they use a heat pump that uses a refrigeration system to dry and recycle the same air.

I'm not sure what would cause this issue, hopefully another tech or member that's seen this problem and fixed it can shed some light on this issue.

Otherwise, you may want to contact Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538 and have a tech come out.

I haven't either but the parts list shows an electric element.

Even when off??

If so, a shorted heating element could cause that. (It is a common failure on many dryers.)

I suggest you switch OFF the breakers or unplug it until it can be looked into. Such a condition is a fire hazard! ⚠️

Thanks Dan, I missed seeing that element.

Dan,

Thanks for the reply.

Happens ONLY when off. While drying (in cycle) the unit top is fine. I thought it might be a short. It dries/works fine otherwise.

I do have it shut off at the breaker.

So what would be replaced? I there something that turns the element on and off? The element works (obviously) so I wouldn't necessarily replace that would I?

Also, where did you go to see the "parts list" (schematic?)?

Thanks again,
Michael
