• ** REMEMBER! **The microwave can still shock you even unplugged!!

ALWAYS discharge the high-voltage capacitor first if you even think your hands will come close to any HIGH VOLTAGE components.

Jeff mentions this: Anything in the high voltage ( magnetron, capacitor, diode, wires to and from ):
...Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it.

She is not heating like she used to. Takes three times the amount of time to get the same results. What can I check?

Thanks

Hi,

How long does it take to boil 1 cup of water?

Magnetron can/will slow down with use/age...

1 cup of water begins to boil in 7 Minutes in a Pyrex 2 cup measuring cup.

Most will boil 1 cup of water under 5 minutes.
Certainly sounds like the mag has weakened and the output is not 100% any more.

I have a magnitron I purchased a few years ago that I found It was not the issue, but a bad fan motor. I'm going to try and replace it.

Where are these capacitors I need to discharge. I don't see the kind I am used to seeing but I'm no e-tech. Any pics?

Thanks,

This unit has an inverter board rather than the capacitor like most other microwaves.

Thanks Guys,

I just finished installing the magnitron and it boiled the cup of water in 3min-20sec. I believe I may have purchased the magnitron from one of the guys on this board.

Well I may have spoken too seen. The cup of water was room temp. The previous test was out of the tap and cooler.
I JUST did my test of frozen spinach before reading your reply which is always 7 minutes and it failed.

Diode? Which one? New oven?

Looks like I'm going to put her down. Any brand or vendor recommendations?

Thanks

A cheap unit is Danby, good price...a better built one is an LG.

That should work fine, nice and simple unit, nothing overly complicated with it :)

Gosh the research reviews are killing me. Nothing b ut love and hate al over the place. Rarely do I hear praise over one being quiet. Tons of complains about being loud.
I have had this one more than 10 years and love it.

How can I test the inverter board? I would not mind tossing the cost of the board now that I have the magnitron in.

Thanks

OK, Decided it was apt to be scrap anyways so I went after the inverter. The only thing I can see is some burning of a wire as shown in the picks below.

Would you say its an open and shut case? Thanks!
