Only this morning, our Whirlpool Duet Dryer lost the automatic dryer setting. When turning the dial, the manual settings light up and display their times and can be changed as normal.

When the dial is turned to the automatic settings, the display switches to -- and cannot be started in any automatic settings.

Tried unplugging and plugging back in to no avail. Hit cancel multiple times before trying again.

Any ideas? Simple fix? *fingers crossed*

Update

Couple of hours later...

I ran a manual cycle for 70 minutes. Once finished, I turned the dryer off, then back on. I moved the dial to automatic cycle and they all work.

Still interested in ideas in case there is something I should be doing now to prevent major repair later.

Maybe a bad moisture censor? Or censor wiring harness? Do the automatic cycles stop working if there is an issue with the moisture censor?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Its possibly the control panel touchpad user interface that may be going bad.

Here is the online repair manual for the Whirlpool Duet dryer:

Give it time to download. Page 4-4 shows you how to remove the control panel touchpad assembly.

Here's the control panel touchpad user interface for your model:

Thanks, I will definitely keep an eye on it in case it becomes regular. At $176, I will probably wait until it becomes quite regular before replacing the part.

Ok, sounds good.:)
