My washing machine is making a very loud knocking sound during spin. It seems to spin ok. The drive coupler is intact. I'm thinking either the clutch or the transmission?

Please recheck your model number, nothing pulls up for TAWS900JQ1.

TAWS800JQ1 shows as good.

Yes, you'd need a new transmission or that gear Rick mentioned in post #6. But you'd need to open up the transmission to replace that gear.

You're right, that was a typo in the model number. Correct model is indeed TAWS800JQ1.

I found a new transmission for $150. Replaced it, along with the clutch since after 20 years, it was quite worn. Washer is working great again. Kids are no longer complaining about not having clothes to wear.
