Whirlpool freezer too warm about once every day or two

The freezer is normally between -20F and -5F however once every day or two it reaches 20-30F per air thermometer. When the freezer warms up the fridge also warms up. When things are warm, no fans or compressors are running. When the compressor and fans kick in, everything seems to cool and work as expected.

I have cleaned the condenser coils and verified the fan is running which keeps air in this area moving when the compressor is running.

I have confirmed the evaporator coils are not iced over at all and the evaporator fan blows air into the fridge when the compressor is running.

I have replaced the defrost controller and the problem persists.

I would like some advice before I replace any more parts. Please advise, thank you.

Its a sticking cold control thermostat.

You will need to replace it. Seen this many times.

Unplug your refrigerator first before installing the new one.

Here's the cold control thermostat for your model you can order:
Manufacturer Number 2198202

Your cold control thermostat is #9 here in this diagram:

Pull the #26 & #27 knobs off first.
#25 trim just un-snaps
Don't worry you won't break it. Get a flathead screwdriver and just pry at a corner then it all will un-snap, and the screws are in front and underneath it.

Remove the 2 #3 screws in front and 2 underneath it.
