We recently inherited a Whirlpool side-by-side and were told "the ice maker doesn't work." What I found out is that the ice maker doesn't work and the water dispenser is quite drippy. I quickly found that a few wires beneath the freezer door hinge were snapped, so I spliced in a small amount of extra wire to hopefully keep them from fraying/snapping again.

The good news is the ice maker definitely pulled water in and started making some ice. However after three hours in Fast Ice mode it has only made about a dozen cubes. Is this normal speed?

The second problem is that when water is pulled to the ice maker it causes dripping from the water dispenser. Likewise, after the water dispenser has been used it continues to drip for maybe 20 or 30 seconds. I completely removed the (what appears to be 3rd party) water filter from the fridge due to loud squealing and slow water dispensing so it isn't that. Could this be a faulty water valve situation?

I appreciate any help.

Yes, that's about right. The ice maker should cycle about every 90 minutes.

There is a diode in the wire harness to the water inlet valve, I'd check that first.

Here it is for his model:
Wire Harness W11291133

Here's the single(primary) MAIN water inlet valve for your model, that the diode wire harness goes to:
WPW10238100 Valve

Rick explains how to test that diode here:
