Good day all, I'm looking for a little advice. I have a GX2SHBXVY05 and the refrigerator portion stopped cooling properly over the weekend. I'm not in a position to replace or spend hundreds on repair, so fixing it myself is pretty much my only option. The freezer still works, and I set the fridge to 7 and it's only a little bit cool.

I pulled the back panel off and gave everything a good clean and made sure the vents between the fridge and freezer weren't blocked. I can hear the fan trying to kick in, but it doesn't run. I do have an ohm meter so if there is anything I can test to start diagnosing the problem, I would love to know about it. Thanks so much!

Hi,

Which fan? The evaporator fan motor in the freezer? Or the condenser fan motor next to the compressor in the very back of the refrigerator?

I only see the one fan, maybe it’s not shown in the diagram or it’s integral to the evaporator? The one pictured here is running and then I hear something else trying to kick in but it shuts off after a few seconds.
I did notice that the drip tray is quite full of water, if that means anything?

Also, I read on the internet that if you pull the compressor relay off and it rattles then it’s toast. I did that and no rattle, and it looks like it’s new (Not that it means anything). I bought this fridge from a used appliance store about 8 months ago so chances are good that they replaced it.

Hey Jake, see comment below for reply. I thought I replied directly to your comment but alas, I did not.
Thanks for your time!

Ok, so the condenser fan motor next to the compressor is running, that's good.

Lets check the evaporator fan motor in your freezer.

Here's the evaporator fan motor for your model:

When you click the evaporator fan motor part link you will see a video on how to access it.

RepairClinic ships to Canada, if you need to order it: https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Evaporator-Fan-Motor/WPW10128551/1480832

Thanks so much Jake, I will definitely order that and report my findings. I’m really glad you didn’t say it was the compressor!

Ok, sounds good.
