Dear Sir,
I have a similar problem to what the others in here have reported.
Your help figuring this out is appreciated!
This built-in oven is a Whirlpool, m/n GBS307PDQ7.
Here's what happened for the first time last night:
We baked some cookies in it (about 15 minutes) (not timed cooking, but timer set to give the signal when done).
After taking them out and pressing the Start/Stop button, the oven shut off.
But a few minutes later we smelled electrical/electronics burning.
So I went to the oven and the upper element was red hot and heating the over like it was in self-cleaning mode, but it wasn't.
Also, the oven door was locked.
So we pressed Start/Stop a few times, and tried a number of the other buttons.
But nothing made any difference, except when we pressed 'self-cleaning' the 'self-cleaning' text showed up in the display, and if we pressed it again, it turned off.
But that made no difference for solving the problem.
So I went and shut off the breakers, which after the oven cooled down, it unlocked.
When I turned the breaker on the oven worked as usual.
Today I removed the control panel.
All there is is a door switch assembly and a control board.
3 of the R1 resistors are loose, and further inspection shows the traces are separating from the pcb board.
Is this normal?
I can't really resolder them b/c they're separated from the board, and soldering won't fix it.
Also, using a magnifying glass it's evident that some of the main solder connections are beginning to deteriorate.
Do you think this could be the problem?
Any chance you can direct me to a free pdf download of a Service Manual on this model?
Thanx for your help!
Cheers...Chris

Thanx Jake.
I figured as much.
Is there any way I can repair this board?
Do you know of a way to fix the separating traces?
Only thing I can figure is to solder wire between the resisters to support the traces.
I've done that in the past when designing circuits on plug-in breadboards.
Otherwise, do you know of a service that will repair this correctly at a reasonable price?
All the ones on eBay are used, and they're committing EXTORTION for them.
This 'Homey don't play dat'.

You can try circuit board medics to repair the board.

Thanx Jake.
If it's only the traces, I was thinking I could solder the resister leads so the solder comes out the top and holds the resisters in place, then I can jump the leads w/a wire to connect them securely. Otherwise, what else could cause the problem on the board? Do you have access to a Service Manual you can send me?
Thanx...Chris

Ok Chris,

Yes if its only traces, you can try re-soldering them. As techs we don't do repairs at board level, so I can't help you will that, sorry.

I couldn't locate the service manual for this model.

OK, Jake, thanx for the info.
And thanx for trying to get me a SM.
I'll try fixing the board myself, and if that doesn't work, I'll try the Board Medics.
New ovens are way too expensive and way to low in quality, besides being way to complicated with heat sensitive parts that don't last and are costly to repair.
So I want to try to keep what I got for as long as possible.
Cheers...Chris

Just got the board back and installed it.
Works as expected.
If it breaks again, I'll come in here and report.
Cheers...
