My Whirlpool WRV986FDEM01 fridge has slowed making ice in both ice makers. The top one makes approximately 3 trays per day. At one point it stopped altogether this spring. I thought I needed to change the ice maker so ordered that and did. While changing I found an ice accumulation in the back of the panel that holds the ice maker and where the freezer air comes in. There is also ice in the front of the maker where it dispenses into the bucket. I cleaned it out and changed the maker and it worked for a few weeks.
This week it has slowed down again. All the codes previously posted checked out.

I have read other threads about the pantry drawer having a short issue. Our light went out for a while after a drink spilled in the fridge but now it came back in and seems to be working. This was a year ago that we had the spill. Could it still have some sort of short? Thanks fir any help

Hi,

Yes, possibly the pantry UI board is the problem.

Disconnect the wires to that Pantry UI Board and see if the ice makers starts working properly again. If so, check your wire harness first to see if you notice a short in it, if no short then the problem is the Pantry UI control board.

Here's the wire harness to it:

Here's the video to access/replace it:

Here's the Pantry UI control board for your model:

This is what it looked like when I took the ice maker apart this time to clean ice buildup away

WOW, I've never seen one do that before.

Was the water inlet valve slowly leaking the water into the ice maker and built that up like that?

I’m not truly sure. It seems to be dripping and then dripping into ice container. Anything else it could possibly be? Unplugging pantry control hasn’t fixed it.

Draw a glass of water from the water dispenser and see if its leaking water into the ice maker when you do that.

Ok, I don't know what could be causing this, like I mentioned I have never seen that happen before and I'd only be guessing as to what part to order,

So its best to contact Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538 to come out and see what part is bad and causing this issue.
