I have a Whirlpool WRX988SIBM03 fridge freezer and it’s stopped making ice. The unit is about 4 years old. When I rest the unit at the main circuit breaker it may make ice for a day or so but then it’ll quit again. It also makes a clicking noise like a relay or pump is trying to energize about once a minute. Don’t notice this when the unit works correctly. I’m guessing it may well be the main control board or similar? Any suggestions. Thanks.

Corrected model number

W10503833 is a part number.

We need the model number, it will start with 2 or 3 alphabets like WRF, etc.

The model number tag is located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

Ah. Got it, thanks.

The model number is: WRX988SIBM03

Also I’ve noticed that sometimes when opening the doors the lights don’t come on properly or they’re dim. Something really is screwed up with this one!

Thanks.

Thanks!

Look inside the freezer, is the freezer LED light completely out?

I did locate a service bulletin that our tech bigbuck posted that could explain this issue, it deals will moisture migration and spillage on the deli interface board.

Symptoms:
Erratic dispenser and/or ice maker operation
Deli Control display changes
Door ajar light won’t turn off
Erratic User Interface operation

WRX988SIBM is listed in this service bulletin.

Cause:
Moisture migration or liquid spills into Dotyk board (Deli User Interface Board) may cause the communication circuit on the board to fail completely or operate erratically.

Correction:
If you are servicing a product for one of the symptoms listed above, remove the Deli board and inspect for evidence of spillage. If confirmed, order and replace the board. See figure 1, 1A.

I'm attaching this service bulletin below so you can see figure 1, 1A.

Here's the deli interface board for this model:

Some members have been able to disconnect the wiring that connects to it and all operation returns to normal.

I located a video that shows you how to remove it and takes the wires off of it:

If the Dotyk board (Deli User Interface Board) is good, then Yes, usually when you unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet for 5 minutes and plug it back in and everything starts working properly that indicates the main control board is the problem.

Then you would need to replace the main control board:
Main Control Board W10843055

Make sure you unplug the refrigerator before replacing the main control board.
