helped a friend look at their freezer last night.... from what I can tell there are 2 issues I could use pointers on....

1 - Ice maker makes ice but doesn't dispense. I took a few things apart looking - once the ice maker is empty and out of the door - the auger (inside the ice bucket spins freely. looked at the drive shaft and the part I took apart was about 2 inches long with a spring on top. I couldn't get it to spin in position, so perhaps the motor is the issue? pushing the ice dispensing button on the door does nothing, makes no noise, doesn't engage the drive shaft.

2 - when I opened the freezer door - there was ice built up at the top, some ice stayed on the door, some was in the compartment up at the top. also - it routinely frosts up and requires using a blow dryer and thawing. My instinct is to think defrost timer.... is the ice I'm seeing the start of the freezing up process that would eventually call for thawing?

For Question 1--->Pull the refrigerator out from the wall, remove the cover from the main control board and have someone press the ice dispenser lever while you take a voltage reading at these Pins: P3-7(Blue wire) to P3-8(Gray wire) you should see 140 volts DC.

If you do get 140 volts DC and the auger motor is not running, and the wires to the auger motor are good, then your auger motor is bad.

Here's the auger motor for your model:
Auger Motor W11202789

If you don't get 140 volts DC then your main control board is bad.

Here's the control board for your model:
Main Control Board W11088499

Or you can ohm test the auger motor per what Rick said here:

Let us know what you find.

For Question 2--->That sounds like a air leak problem in the door gasket, check to make sure the door gasket is sealing tight against the cabinet when closed.

thanks - it is definitely the gasket - right where the frost is building up, the gasket is no longer touching the freezer. having a difficult time finding a good source for a replacement - it's dark gray, and even the appliance repair store in town can't find one. Can I apply some silicone caulk to seal the gap?

as for question 1 - I peaked behind the refrigerator assuming that when you said pull it away from the wall, the access cover to remove was on the back. I didn't see any access panels - perhaps I should look again. You tube has always been my friend, but for this - I'm not seeing anything about how to access the auger moter, how to replace it, also I can't find a repair manual that would give instructions... is it all done via the control panel on the front? .

Yes, you can.

The control board is located in the back of the refrigerator. The auger motor is in the freezer door. You take the voltage reading from the control board.

This video gives you the general idea of where the control board is located:

This video shows you how to access the auger motor:
