Whirlpool LXR7244JT1 - Brake will not disengage

My wife alerted me that the washer drained but will not spin. Upon review, when turning the timer, the machine will fill but no spin or agitate.
NOTE: I had been thru a few lid switches and years ago bypassed with a wire nut on the 2 gray wires and has been operational.

I have read thru many threads and I seem to have some caveats that don't match other issues.

I hear no sound from motor when turning dial to the spin or agitate cycle.

1) I am wondering if the issue could be as simple as the lid switch reset with X seconds???
- Does that apply to my model? (If so I will have to order a lid switch or do some wire touching)

2) I noticed the brake is engaged and the tub is very hard to turn by hand.
-Should it be engaged when resting? (My wife and I THINK it was possible to spin the tub more easily)

3) Is the location of the this rust indicative of time to let it go??

EDIT disregard most of the above post: so it turned out my lid switch bypass was failing after all these years… ma bad

But I do still wonder if I should be concerned about the rust??
Any remaining concerns like major water leakage/short outs/ electrocution?? Or just part failure.

Yes, eventually that rust will get so bad it will break the inner tub assembly, then the inner tub will not spin anymore.
