We have a problem with our Whirlpool WRF560SEYM French Door refrigerator.
Appliance was purchased 11/12/16 from Home Depot.
Roughly a year ago we had this issue and had a service technician come out and "repair" it (he said it was a clogged drain tube and it certainly seemed to fix the problem UNTIL NOW.) Problem has resurfaced. See attached images.
Problem:
Frozen water is observed as drips in/on the back side of the ice tray. Frozen water is also observed on back panel behind icemaker and APPEARS to be originating from/near where water pipe comes out of back panel and towards the ice maker. Frozen water is also observed as having dripped and frozen (see pictures) down back panel, fusing back panel to condenser coils, and - if problem is left unattended for long enough - will fill entire floor of freezer and begin dripping out of freezer drawer and onto floor as water (this is how the problem was first noticed first time around).
Appliance is out of manufacturer warranty - hence we are fixing it ourselves. We tore the unit apart last night, defrosted all the ice off the coils, pulled appliance away from wall and located and cleared drain tube and drip tray. We also further modified the rubber nipple on the end of the drain tube as read online, in an attempt to stop the problem occurring again. See attached image of ice built up on condenser coils once we tore the back panel out.
This morning, and the problem is still with us. See attached images. I am no longer convinced that this is the legendary "drain pipe clogged" problem. I do NOT understand how dripping (frozen) water can end up all the way up behind the ice maker (see images), as a result of a clogged drain tube down below. I DO understand how a clogged drain pipe could cause ice buildup on floor of freezer, for sure, and hence lead to water beginning to leak out of the drawer door (which is how we found the problem initially).......but how would water from a clogged drain pipe and sheet of ice on freezer floor make its way up to make "drip patterns" ON TOP of the ice tray? Unless there is some weird kind of retrograde/regurgitation issue with a pipe somewhere.....I just don't get it.
Need advice please - any help is much appreciated. We are sick of this unit and will never buy another Whirlpool. Thanks.
