Hi! I'm having some issues with my less than 3 year old Whirlpool Refrigerator, model WRV986FDEM01. About 3 days ago, the inside lights stopped working. Originally, I thought it may be an issue with the switch, but then, the next morning, my water/ice dispenser stopped working also. It does nothing, no buzzing, no sound at all when the paddle is depressed.

Then, randomly the display started flashing error code PF. I can clear the code but I'm also unable to pull up any of the functions on the display (eg. Options and Temp). When I press one of these buttons, it just briefly flashes the option then goes back to the main screen. We've had no recent power failures to my knowledge. The cooling system seems to be working fine as the temp appears to be ok. Frozen foods still frozen. The temp may be a little low in the refrigerator but it's hard to tell. I'm worried that my control board may be fried. Any ideas what it could be?

Hi,

Does your Temperature control Pantry drawer inside the refrigerator section no longer have a display? Is the display out? If so, Disconnect it and see if everything starts working properly again. There have been a few members that have found that Pantry UI control board shorted out and thus it will cause the interior lights and ice maker/dispenser to stop working as well.

I am having a similar problem with my WRV986FDEM01 fridge. The inside lights went dim for a few days and now they're completely out. The water and ice dispenser are acting differently than the problem above. Mine will start to dispense, then stop. When pressing the button again, it will dispense some more then stop.

Do you think this may be the same issue just with slightly different symptoms?

Yes, do what I mentioned in post #2 as well and see if it starts working again after you disconnect the wire harness to the Pantry UI Board.

Ok so I checked the pantry door and the light is out on that panel and the select button doesn't work.

I pried it loose and disconnected it, but the lights didn't come back on and the dispenser still stops after a bit.

Ok, then you have a different problem and would need Whirlpool to come out at 1-866-698-2538 to investigate it.

craziest thing... it didn't work this morning, but when I went to go make lunch, everything came back on and works normal.

I've gotta have an electrical short somewhere I'd bet.
