When we go to fill a cup from the water dispenser side water will also flow down from the ice dispenser. It also does the "opposite" when it is filling the ice tray to make ice it will also pour water out of the water dispenser. Is there some kind of programming or valve control solenoid or something that needs updated/adjusted/replaced?

That sounds like a diode problem.
