Whirlpool WTW5640XW2 Cabrio washer noisy agitation

Fill and spin are silent…agitation started out stripping noises in only one direction and progressed to both directions. Have removed wash plate and cleaned out massive yuk underneath it. Did not solve problem. Managed to remove lid latch so I can observe agitation and even though I can’t turn wash plate by hand, it agitates just fine. I dread moving washer off the pedestal and flipping on a side to gain access to bottom.

Ok, before you check underneath the washer--->Check the basket drive block and see if the teeth are worn out on it. When you click the part link to it below, you will see a video of how to access it.

Here's the Basket Drive Block Kit for your model, if needed:

If that's fine--->Take the belt off and remove the transmission pulley and remove the plastic cams AND check the cams to see if the teeth are grinding down causing this problem.

Yes, it sounds like the splutch cam teeth are wearing down.
