After checking the indicator on my GE top load washer motor, I checked the shifter coil and got no continuity. My question is this, if the shifter coil is bad, would the agitator still spin? I am trying to decide if something may be wrong on top of the shifter coil.

Hi,

I checked the shifter coil and got no continuity.
Yes, the mode shifter is the problem. It should be about 66 ohms when you ohm test it.

My question is this, if the shifter coil is bad, would the agitator still spin?
Yes.

Here's the Mode Shifter assembly for your model you can order(Video Included):
WH38X10017 Mode Shifter & Shaft Assembly

You will also need the spanner wrench to replace it: WX5X1325 Spanner Wrench

Let us know how it goes if you decide to fix it.

Nothing moves at all when the washer is run. It fills and drains but nothing else. As I was afraid, there must be something else wrong on top of the coil. The belt is fine, as is the lid switch and when the belt it turned manually the tub moves freely. My next best guess is the motor it's self, or maybe the timer? If the board on the motor is simply tripped and needs a reset, would washer still fill and drain?

That I don't know.

Shawn has a good web page about these Hydrowave washers and what to check for here: HydroWave GE Washer Repair Guide

I'd first check the LED light on the motor first and see how many times its flashing in sequence.

Here's the motor for your model:
WH20X10093 Motor and Inverter Asm

There is a video in the motor part link that shows you how to access it. Also unplug the washer and remove the belt, then plug it in a try it again in agitate and spin and see if the motor turns by itself without clicking.

I appreciate the help

I agree that this is a good site and through it I learned to test the coil. Unfortunately, it does not cover my particular issue.

That's how I knew to check the coil.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose here. The belt/drum assembly moves freely when hand turned. I don't see how it would keep the motor from turning.

I am hoping the problem is with the timer instead of the motor. Is there a way to test the timer? I may just have to bite the bullet and replace the coil assembly then see what the motor says is wrong.

Is there a way to test the timer?
Not that I'm aware of.

Here's another thread I help on back in 2016 to check the motor fuse:
Read here--->You need to do the continuity check as per Shawn's web site to rule out the fuse link.

But if you get no continuity on the Mode Shifter assembly whatsoever, that has to be the problem, you know what I mean?
