I have a GE washer model WPRB9220C0WW that does not spin. I have been reading all of the great information here and before I contribute it to the waste stream I would just like to make sure I am not missing anything.

My wife ran a heavy load this weekend and complained that the clothes were still wet after the cycle completed. It agitates, fills with water, and drains just fine. I have inspected and cleaned the pressure valve line, confirmed that the lid switch is operable, checked the belt, and ran the diagnostics. No codes were present. During the diagnostics in the spin tests, it would not spin. It seems to start for a second and then stops.

It seems as though the transmission is possibly locked up. Would a bad speed sensor prevent it from spinning? Unfortunately the transmission and speed sensor have been discontinued and are no longer available.

Is there anything else I should check before I replace it? I know we have been on borrowed time with this washer but I would like to keep the old girl working.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, a bad speed sensor or a locked up transmission can cause this problem, what I do is unplug the machine, then remove the belt from the transmission and motor pulleys, then plug the machine back in and set it to spin and see if the motor runs by itself, if so, then that confirms it.:)

Since both are NLA, its time to retire it and get a new washer.:)

Speed Queen is the best, but it comes at a high price.

Maytag and Whirlpool are very good too, more at a reasonable price. My Washer is a Maytag and it works great, no problems at all.:)
