My fridge started making rattling noises, even when both fans are off. Finally after taking apart most of the fridge, I found the air damper was rattling. I am surprised it was running even when I turned the cooling off. Basically it would close the damper and a couple of seconds later it would open it, and so on.

The part is WPW10257451, still sold at Sears.

It actually stopped rattling when I put it back, but the damper still closes, opens. Should I replace the damper or this is a bigger issue?

Hi,

Yes, the problem is the damper.

Here's the damper for your model you can order:
WPW10257451 Damper

You get a 365 day warranty on it from AppliancePartsPros. Sears has filed bankruptcy so you will have no warranty on it from Sears after they shut down in a couple months, trust me I worked for Wards when they went bankrupt and Sears is going through the same exact bankruptcy.

Thanks, ordered. If not the damper, then would the next thing be the main control board or temp sensors?

Also, meanwhile should I disconnect the damper or let it be? Would like to use the fridge until the part arrives.

Yes, You can disconnect the damper till you get the new one.

I've installed many dampers with this same problem and its fixed them all.

Seems to be working fine with the new part. Thanks.

I wonder if this damper will be available in another 5 years, our should stock up.

That's a good question, I don't see why it wouldn't be, but you never know.

Thanks for the update!
