WRF736SDAM14 Whirlpool Refrigerator - No water for ice maker on Test 45, but sounds like it's filling...

So, I started with an E2 error on test 56, so I got a new ice maker. After installing, it made a full bin of ice pretty quickly. I dumped it to start fresh, and since then, no ice.

When I run test 45, it sounds like the valve opens and it is filling, but there is no water entering the ice maker. I have unplugged and powered everything down for a good 30 minutes in hoping to reset everything, but to no avail.

All other tests seem to be fine. 56, 57, 58, 59 all check out. The water dispenser in the door works. Help!

I'd first check your ice maker fill tube for ice blockage, and check to make sure you didn't forget to re-connect the fill tube heater after you replaced the ice maker.

Thanks for the prompt response.

So, I woke up today with an ice bin half filled. Throughout the day, it is still trying to fill up the ice maker with water, but it is dry.

So it worked somewhat overnight. I will have to pull everything back apart to check the fill tube and heater to see what is going on.

If that all checks out, might it be a control panel issue?

No, because you said it sounds like its filling, once you access that fill tube assembly its highly likely you will find it clogged with partial ice.

So I took everything back apart, and the fill tube is clear. No ice or blockage. It still sounds like the valve solenoid is opening, but no water is flowing. It was doing that all day yesterday, followed by what sounded like a harvest cycle. That happened about what seemed like every 20-30 minutes.

Not sure how to work backwards from the fill tube to see what it might be. Could there be an ice blockage somewhere before the valve? Is there a way to check that? Or do I need to just unplug it for a few days and let the whole thing defrost to see?

Now after I put everything back together after checking for blockage, I have no lights, the fan box does not run (although it passed the test on the panel), and the tube defrost mechanism is overheating. The ice maker is hot. Also, there is now an E3 on test 56 and no harvest on 57.

I think it's time just to get a new unit.

Yes, its time to either contact Whirlpool to come out to see what's going on, or buy a new machine. This has me puzzled too.

I am glad I went back to have a second look. The metal of the ice maker got so hot, it melted the door flap.

I've never seen anything like it. The metal of the ice maker was so hot that if I had kept my finger on it, I would have gotten a burn.

It's only four years old but I think it's time to just buy a new unit.
