Hi all
New here and a homeowner, not a repair tech but pretty handy.
I have the Whirlpool model listed above (WRF954C1HZ)and although we've had it for a while, we just recently hooked up the ice maker supply line.
All seemed well as it made a few batches of ice. Then it started leaking water inside and outside out near dispensing area. Seems it was ok until someone dispensed water.
After further investigation, I see that it's over filling the ice tray. Every time I toggle the water dispenser, it opens the tray spigot valve. It will do this indefinitely to the point of
over filling the tray.
I'm wondering, how does the tray know it's full of water?
It appears that the valve on a timer, but it resets every time you push the water dispense paddle? Doesn't sound right...

Any ideas on what the issue is?

Thank you so much

Hi Doug,

Your saying whenever you press the water dispenser lever to fill your water glass water goes into the ice maker tray rather than your water glass?

No, water goes into the water glass, but it also triggers the ice tray fill for the timed setting...maybe 5 or 6 sec.
I would have thought that dumping ice would reset the tray fill timer?

The ice maker does signal the water to fill the tray for about 5 to 7 seconds on a set timer.

This is a problem I've not seen before, so It's best to have Whirlpool come out to see what's going on.

Thanks Jake. That's what I figured. I'll get someone out to look at it. I suspect it's a control module of some sort.
I unplugged the switch to the water flapper, so we wouldn't accidentally trip it and overfill tray.
It's working fine making ice...
Thanks again,
Doug
