Last time we noticed everything worked fine was Super Bowl Sunday Feb 7,21
Tue Feb 9, my wife noticed that the food freezer was getting soft, and the Ice maker was dripping water into the tray on the door, not much, about a tablespoon.
Looked in the freezer compartment and noticed that there was a Dark Brown Sludge leaking on the left side of the freezer trays, and then leaking down into the shelf behind the lower freezer compartment tray.

Ice in the ice maker was melting and not making ice.
Placed a thermometer in the freezer and it read 40* and the refrigerator was also 40*.

I replaced the water filter and removed all the food to another freezer,

Unplugged the fridge and Moved the Fridge away from the wall, removed the back cardboard panel and cleaned out the dust from the bottom coils front and back, ( not much dust there) and after about 30 min, I plugged it back in and made sure the refridge and freezer temperatures were set to the factory settings on the control panel and watched the temperatures. I set the Ice Maker to Fast Ice.

Ice Maker On/Off is ON

After a few hours, the freezer temperature was at 20*, then after a couple of more hours it was at 15* and some Ice was made and came out the ice dispenser.
The Fridge temperature was at 40*
I thought everything was going back to normal and moved the unit back into place.

This morning When I got up I checked the temperatures again and the fridge was at 40* , but the freezer was at 35* - 40* again. The Ice maker crushed the Ice left in the try, but Ice was soft and melting.
Water dispenses normal.
There was also some more of the brown sludge in the freezer tray.
Some things I noticed on the control panel was the top ICE Display, ICE lights up, but “Cubed” is not illuminated, while Water and Crushed are.
Also when setting the fridge temperature, I can see the numbers, but some of the “Bars” that make the numbers do not light up.

I can’t be sure, but it seems that the refridge is running all the time now.

Can someone direct me to a self help youtube (can’t find much, except on how to fix the icemaker) or give me a place to start testing more?
Thanks In Advance

Hi Rick,

Is the freezer fan running?

Look and feel the back panel inside the freezer and see if you notice thick frost build-up on it.

Hello Jake..
thanks for the reply
I "Think" I hear the fan running, as there is some light noise
from the freezer. (never paid attention to what sounds are!)
and NO there is no ice build up by the vents in the freezer or behind the pull out try in the fridge part.
Going to take the top try out a little later tonight.

When the temperature rises that high is the compressor and condenser fan motor running? The condenser fan motor is next to the compressor.

If both are running then it sounds like a sealed system/compressor problem. Check your owners manual warranty, some models have up to a 10 year warranty on the compressor.

UPDATE..

Still no change in the Freezer or Fridge temps..
Both still about 40*
I checked the compressor and coil temperatures with a laser thermometer
And the compressor read 115* ( I couldn’t find anything on the web to see what is normal)
The Coil in the bottom back read 85*
The Compressor fan is always running.
No Ice in any of the coils or in the freezer compartment.

Check out the attached photo.

One thing I don’t understand is why when I cleaned out the dust in the bottom, the Freezer temperature Went down to 15*, and then the next morning it was back to 40*??
If it was a sealed system failure, why would the Fridge still cool?

Another thing I noticed is that the water filter level is at 0%, when I just changed it two days ago !

Any suggestions on what to check next?
Our local Service Techs won’t be available until Tuesday

Thanks For Looking !

Update 2
OK...
This is weird.
I moved the fridge out from the wall and took the rear cardboard panel off to measure the compressor temp about 12 noon today.
Did not replace the panel and moved the fridge back against the wall.
A couple of hours later (2 PM ish) looked at the Freezer temperature and it went down to about 30*, and about two hours after that (about 4PM) it was at 19*.
Now about 2 hours after that ( 6PM) it is back to 40*
I am going to unplug it for a bit and see if it starts the decline in temps.
Can't figure what to check next...

I read in another thread about someone doing a Service Test .
What is this and can I do this on my unit?
Link on what/how to do a Service Test ?
Thanks

Look in your tech data sheet, it will show and tell you how.

Your tech. data sheet should be located under the top right side door hinge cover.

The switch control panel is your ice and water dispenser control panel.:)

Rick made a diagram to show you how:

Use this diagram for the switch numbers:
Snapshot_2.jpg

To ENTER SERVICE DIAGNOSTICS Mode: Press SW1 and SW2 simultaneously for 3 seconds.

Release both buttons when you hear the CHIME indicator.

Each test must be manually advanced.

Press SW5 to move to the next test in the sequence.

Press SW4 to back up in the sequence to the previous test.

Each test is displayed in the two digits of the dispenser user interface display.

The test results are displayed in the two digits on dispenser user interface display 2 seconds after the test number is displayed.

An amber "order filter" light will be shown to designate that the test number is being displayed and a red "replace filter" light will be shown to designate that the status of the test is being displayed.
