I have a Whirlpool WRT318FZDB02 which is basic freeze on top unit. Both fridge and freezer fans are running, condenser coils have been vacuumed off and appear clean. Compressor is running but neither fridge nor freezer are getting cold enough. Both are currently empty. It’s not an issue where it turns itself off, it’s acting like it skills be dropping temperatures but freezer is only getting down to low 50’s. It doesn’t quit, it’s just not getting to temp. Please help it’s only 7 years old. It’s in great shape otherwise.

A first step will be inspecting the evaporator coil in the freezer for what frosting is occurring on it. Some disassembly will be required.

Do this after the fridge has been running for a while and before any defrosting is done. Post a photo of the frost accumulation (or not) on the evaporator and we'll suggest a course of action.

Common causes of cooling issues are described at the link below.

No frost on the fins, but this huge ice chunk can’t be helping. Compressor is warm to the touch, one line going to it is cool, the other isn’t “warm” as I’ve read it should be. Thank you so much for your reply and help!!

I'm afraid that is bad news. You have a sealed refrigeration system problem which will require a trained refrigeration technician to look into further.

Refrigeration system work usually starts at $150+ and if the compressor itself is responsible, it would very likely be $500+ to repair.
