Whirlpool Model WRX986SIHZ00 will not make ice on its own. In service mode it has E0 for test 56. Ice maker will fill with water in service mode, ice box fan turns on in service mode. The water will freeze but will not harvest unless it is initiated in service mode. The optical light in the ice bin is not lit, but it will work and sense empty bin in service mode.

It seemed to slow down production in the last few weeks and then started to only produce ice in fast mode. Now no ice production at all. Where to start?

Put a freezer thermometer in the ice maker compartment and see what it reads after 2 hours, it needs to be under 10 degrees F at all times to make ice continually.

If its under 10 degrees F at all times, then its a problem with the ice maker

Thank you, Jake. The ice box compartment read at 12 degrees and the freezer read 2 degrees, but is set at zero. Turning the temp down two degrees started ice production in about 30 minutes. We replaced the evaporator fan last year, is that where we should start again?

No, unless the evaporator fan motor isn't running at all.

Just keep the freezer temp. below 10 degrees and it should keep making ice.
