HELLO and Help
This 30+year old 27 inch wall oven (with broil and rotisserie) was manufactured for the Canadian Department Store Chain, Eaton's, by whom I don't know.
Model WS..DS7W0 Serial # 202923 KW3.8 Max. line current 19.0 amps.
The current bake element has expired. It was a generic replacement for the original and installed 5 years ago by a technician. There is no indication of wattage.
Question: What happens if I install a higher wattage element? For example, I install a 3000 watt in place of a 2500 watt????
This is urgent, the spouse is getting worried about not having an oven for Christmas Eve. Help!!!

I believe yours is a 1977 model made by Westinghouse (hence the WS at the beginning). I don't have parts books for that model but I looked up a 1978 model DS8W0 and it uses part # 679D209H01 bake element that was rated at 2760 watts. Your oven model likely used that same 2760 watt element.

Replacing it with a 3,000 watt element should not cause a problem. In fact several suppliers substitute that original element with universal element # UB732 which is 3,000 watts.

Thank you for you quick response to my query. Your suggestion was right on the mark and the oven is now working and I'll get Christmas dinner.
Here is the name of a contact at a company that produces both OEM and replacement parts. I discovered them in my search. Nice lady, very helpful. I cannot figure out how to attach their catalog to this reply. So, this was the next best thing.

I know for certain it was made by Westinhgouse. Photos won't help. My previous employer did service for Eatons in Hamilton in the 70’s and 80’s. I am very familiar with products of that era.

Your oven was also quite possibly made in Hamilton at the forrunner to the Camco plant on Longwood Rd. The next year WCI (White Consolidated Industries) purchased the Westinghouse appliance division and moved wall oven production to their Hupp plant in Quebec. The model designation was changed to reflect that, eg. HP-DS8W0. At the beginning they were made to the Westinhgouse blueprints. After that, Hupp altered the designs from year to year.

Hi Dan,

I found this thread looking for the oven element for my 1959 (I'm told) Westinghouse oven, built on Longwoodin Hamilton. The element part number is 679D209H01 but that might not be original. But to answer your question about the oven serial number, mine is KS630MG.

If the oven worked previously with that element, get another or whatever it is currently replaced by, if it is needed.

It's not nearly that old. I'll try to look it up tomorrow but it appears to be early to mid 70's..

But to answer your question about the oven serial number, mine is KS630MG.

That is the model number, not serial. The serial on the right is obscured in your photo. Any chance you take another of it showing the serial on the right more clearly?
