I find this problem in several VMW type washers: Error code F7E1 and/or noisy spin. When I examine the parts underneath, everything is splattered with a brown residue, especially on the speed sensor cover. I can usually correct the error code by cleaning or replacing the sensor/shifter assembly, but then it spins noisily like a jet plane taking off. I'm sure the transmission needs replacing, but what is that brown residue?

Hi,

but what is that brown residue?
Soap, water, bits of the bearing, rust.....usually from water weeping through the seal and into the spin/tranny bearing.

Transmission
