I am having an issue where the compressor at the top of my GE Monogram refrigerator sometimes rattles loudly. To stop the rattle, I simply lift the flap cover at the top and gently poke the compressor once or twice with a blunt object like a plastic spoon, and then close the flap. That always makes the rattle stop. But this is obviously annoying to be dealing with almost daily. Is there a long-term fix so it stops rattling?

I don’t think the noise is coming from inside the compressor. I think it’s possibly rattling against the pan or something else that it is touching. When I slightly move the compressor by poking it, the noise stops.

You or someone needs to see what/where the noise is coming from.
Compressor is bolted down so it shouldn't move.
Pan out of place can certainly be checked by whomever inspects the noise.

It sits on rubber mounts....have you actually gotten out a ladder and had a peek?

What should I look for?

How the compressor is bolted down.
If the pan/tray is actually under the compressor.
Any tubing that might have moved and are contacting things and rattling.
Is the noise coming from inside the compressor.

OK, thanks. Next time it's rattling I will look at it. I'm pretty sure the noise is not coming from inside the compressor because just touching the compressor with the slightest pressure can make the rattling stop. I think something is vibrating and it's metal hitting something over and over, creating a rattle.
